Not dead or even close, really. But it has been a helluva year and a half or maybe three. I know I haven't been gone that long, but it feels like it. I'm kind of emerging from a fog, at least I hope I'm emerging. Some things I have learned recently:

1) You all are awesome and [personal profile] gryffindorj has an extra side of wonderful. Thank you to her and all of you who participated in [profile] for_min. ♥ x 1,000.
2) I've missed being around here more regularly or at all. I've missed writing more and commenting and rec'ing and I hope to be back and stop having to apologize to mods as of…right now.
3) Cancer sucks and so does losing a parent and my family is actually crazier than I thought.
4) I could grow old and wither away waiting for the kid to get out of the car. Seriously. I have tried to wait him out, just see how long it would take if I don't prompt him, hurry him along, pull him out of the car. I have never, not once, been able to wait him out. I always lose it and say, "would you please get out of the car?!" I asked him the other day to guess how many days of my life I had spent waiting for him to get out of the car thus far and he said, "About four weeks. Hey, have you ever noticed how people who have cats tend to get more cats?"
5) I have not updated my masterlist or reposted fest fics here for about a year and a half. I shall get right on that…now.
6) Here's a song about a duck that really wants some grapes: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MtN1YnoL46Q

And some recs )

I was out of town last week and did not get on line at all because of lack of internet and many kids around. As a result I: missed my [community profile] daily_deviant posting date (thank goodness for the benevolent [personal profile] r_grayjoy for a new date and for [personal profile] woldy for communicating my fail to her); missed the NEWT level trivia test at [community profile] rs_games (but because Team Sirius is made of awesome, we still won without my alleged brilliance – or because I didn't participate, not sure which); and I was nearly booted out of [community profile] hd_holidays (thank all that is good for [personal profile] gryffindorj for telling the mods she was sure I was not dropping out and letting me know that I was on the bad participant list – I hate being a bad participant). See? NEVER, EVER leave the internets!!!! Bad things happen. There might be a lesson about kids here as well… HOWEVER, I choose to take all of these as indications of the fabulousness of my flist. And now for MORE fabulousness of my flist:

The wonderful [personal profile] torino10154 wrote me a fabulous fic for my birthday!! It is h/d, rated R for ridiculously sexy (what?) Appetizer. It is a delicious bit of naughtiness right before the in-laws come calling. It is much loveliness in 665 words -- more than worth the time. Please go and read it and leave her a lovely comment.

Some of the themes at [community profile] daily_deviant this month are body writing, authority role plays, and Charlie/Draco as an alternate pairing. As you might expect, this has resulted in some delicious porn. Here are some I really enjoyed and you might, too:

Four Times Charlie Had Authority Over Draco and One Time He Didn't by [profile] snegurocka_lee
Pairing: Charlie/Draco. Brief implied past Charlie/Kingsley.
Rating: NC-17
Theme Chosen: Authority figure role-play... which blurs the line between playing and actual. (It is not D/s, though!)
Other Warnings: EWE for Draco
Word Count: ~8,500
Summary: It started the week after the final battle, in a Ministry holding cell with a fake Auror and a suspect who was used to doing as he was told.

Brilliant characterizations and UST and sexiness oh my!!!! It is funny and smart and feels like a much, much longer story in the very best way. Oh, and there's a wonderful Bill/Fleur cameo. I always love when Lee throws in Bill and/or Fleur. She builds the relationship slowly and it makes complete sense. Oooh, happy, romantic ending, too!!! Wonderful read.

A Custom-ary Intimacy by [personal profile] woldy
Characters/Pairings: Charlie/Draco
Rating: R
Theme Chosen: authority figure roleplay
Other Warnings: appearance of dubcon
Word Count: ~2000 words
Summary:"You can let me inspect your bag, or you can return to..." Malfoy glances down at the parchment in his hand "...Romania."

Funny, sweet, sexy story with a take on the theme you might not expect. It will keep you guessing a bit. My favorite moment is when…well, you'll have to see for yourself because I don't want to give it away. And the ending? LOL!!! I have more to say, but I really can't. Just read it.

Magic Touch by [personal profile] torino10154
Rating: NC-17
Kinks/Themes Chosen: Massage Parlors, alternate pairing
Other Warnings: Handjob, anal, fingering
Word Count: ~1740
Summary/Description: Now that he's back in England, Charlie Weasley's opened a massage parlor.

Charlie runs a massage parlor. Draco is his client. Why are you still here? Okay, really, one of things that I love about [personal profile] torino10154's writing is that she usually writes drabble to fairly short stories and you never feel shortchanged in the story department. She manages complete scenes and stories with real characters in her shorter stories and that amazes me. This is no exception.

Logos by [profile] kellychambliss
Pairings: Rita Skeeter/Dolores Umbridge
Rating: R-ish
Kinks/Themes Chosen: body writing
Other Warnings: blood play
Word Count: 1400
Summary: For Rita Skeeter, "word" and "sex" and "blood" are synonyms.

Most of you know I'm pretty vanilla in my tastes and normally would probably not read a fic with blood play. However, one thing I've learned in HP fandom is the danger of saying you never like something in a fic. This is not a romance, and that wouldn't be right with these two, so that is a good thing. This has Kelly_chambliss' crisp, vivid writing and razor sharp characterizations that are a pleasure to read for the craft of it. The intensity of the story and the charact

Please give some of these a read and don't forget to leave a line or two saying what you enjoyed!

AND IN MORE OMG FLAIL!!! [personal profile] gryffindorj has written for me 30K OF TEDDY/JAMES AUROR FIC! I've just started it, but already there is a fabulous Daddy/Auror Harry, Rose as James' bff, an old crush, UST, a lovely Mummy Ginny, funny Ron and Hermione, sexiness everywhere AND THAT IS JUST IN THE FIRST HALF OF THE FIRST PART. I have a glass of wine and the file open, so you know where I'll be until I fall asleep with my face on my keyboard: Quiet, by gryffindorj!!

So flist, did you know that taking care of someone who has just had open heart surgery is a bloody lot of work? I suppose that's obvious, but it is. This is why I haven't been around much. :P

I am supposed to take the kid camping with a big group of friends this weekend. Not sure how this is going happen. I will be doing a lot of back and forth, I guess. I know friends will help, but I may be out of touch again this weekend and I may need to mainline coffee.

I think I may have gained back all the weight l lost in the last round of Game On. I am not going to worry about it, though, because that would be self-defeating and whatever, really. And….the next round starts on June 2nd! I will be so, so ready and I will continue to drink wine and eat chocolate at the end of these long days until June 1st.

Right, I'm a bit of a drag here, so in other news – FIC FOR ME!!!!

Prizes from the last round of [profile] game_is_on (because [personal profile] romaine and I kicked their arses (of course, they kicked the collective arse of me, [personal profile] lyras, and [profile] elizassecret this last round. Wait a moment, [personal profile] romaine seems to win all the time *note to self: put Rom on my team again next time):

Bingo! by [personal profile] torino10154: Remus and Sirius, along with Regulus, Severus, Dumbledore, and a few others play Bingo in the afterlife. This is a quick, short, snappy back and forth between Remus and Sirius that is sexy, funny, and sweet. YAY! And it's mine, but you should read it and leave a lovely comment. :D

Step by Step (A Beginners Guide to Bringing James Potter to Your Bed) by [profile] gryffindor_j: Scorpius has been tasked with seducing James – by Teddy!! Scorpius follows the step-by-step given to him by Teddy. They include "bring him to me," which I have on good authority was said with a wolfish growl. I don't think I need to tell you anything else. I have to share this one with Rom, which I don't mind and we both, I'm sure encourage you to share our good fortune and leave some love.

Written for me at [community profile] hp_beholder: Dogs of War by [personal profile] alimsiemanym. It is a gritty, carefully crafted story with an unflinching portrait of war. Mind the warnings, but read it for the believable, intense and incredibly touching relationship and the genuine characterizations of Moody and Scrimgeour. A really moving, vivid, and detailed fic.

I wrote, The News Today (Morning Edition), which I'll repost here soon. It has the pairings: Augusta/Moody, Minerva/Arabella, and Arthur/Molly. That's right. I not only wrote het, I wrote het that wasn't James/Lily and I wrote Weasley het. I am rather pleased with how some bits of this turned out. :)

I planned, and still plan, to do some more recs from [community profile] hp_beholder. In the meantime, check out the masterlist and just pick something to read/view. Don't go by pairing or the authors and artists you know (except, of course, for mine). You really can't do that at this fest. It is such a fabulous fest and the overall quality is really stellar.

And…Remix is live! I ended up writing a pinch hit for it. Go and peruse the amazing archive. I've only had time so far to read a couple, and they have both been great fun. The fandom tag page is here (http://archiveofourown.org/collections/Remix2010/fandoms) at Archive of Our Own.

That's all for now. Need to get some sleep so I can get up and do it all again. How are you, dear flist?
mindabbles: (teddy-james kiss)
1) I went out to run errands wearing my slippers this afternoon.

2) Conversation overheard between my son and his friend while the two boys are playing with their pokemon cards. Friend, "This says I'm in love. Why do I have to be in love? That sucks." Son, "You're in love? In your face! Ha ha." Friend, "I'll get out and it could be worse. At least I'm in love with you." Son, "That's true. Let's keep playing." I actually have no idea what any of this means.

3) [profile] midnitemaraud_r, [profile] red_sqaured, [profile] gryffindor_j, and I held a little birthday party for Remus the other night. Four fics, all Remus/Sirius. I highly recommend each of theirs. They are ranging in rating from PG-13 to NC-17, they are all funny, sweet, and sexy. You can find them HERE, along with mine (which is porn, because [profile] gryffindor_j told me to. It also has wall sex because once upon a time, [profile] gryffindor_j pointed out to me that I had never written R/S wall sex).

4) OMG, did you all check out Daily Deviant yesterday?? Well, this whole month—the community's birthday party. All the fics are remixes of previous DD works and it has been a pretty fabulous month. Yesterday was a banner day over there with two fabulous fics:

A Job With Benefits by [personal profile] woldy, rated R, is an absolutely charming, romantic, funny Hooch/Pomfrey. There is a lovely sex scene that will make you sigh. What I was most struck by with this one is that it is such a complete story in its just over 1,000 words. It won't take you long, and it will make you happy.

Betrayal is a Thorny Crown (You Wear It Well) by [personal profile] snegurochka_lee, rated NC-17, Teddy/James, is achey, hot, gripping, emotionally complex, and beautifully written. There is a scene where James confronts Teddy that made my breath catch. The tension is palpable. It follows wonderfully from the incredible original, Bruised Like a Cherry (Ripe as a Peach)—omg, so hot. A fabulous Victoire, wonderful supporting characters, and did I say HOT?? Really, go and read it.

5) [profile] midnitemaraud_r just informed me that the clocks turn back, turn ahead, whatever, it is LATER THAN I THOUGHT, tonight. Damn. :P

Head on over to [community profile] femgenficathon and check out Majesty by [profile] kellychambliss

The Queen of England has occasion to learn of the existence of the magical world, and she wants to see it for herself. The story takes her, with the current Prime Minister, to Hogwarts to meet up with Minerva and Kingsley. What you get is a delightful story with a rich backstory for Minerva, wonderful interactions between Minerva and Kingsley, and really lovely conversation between Minerva and Elizabeth. It is a very quick read for its 6K.

Go on and check it out and leave the author some love!

On another note, it is raining, I have peppermint tea, and I am about to start writing my [community profile] hd_holidays fic. Or I might just peruse the flist. I hope you are all having similarly relaxing evenings. :)

LGBT Fest has been posting for a little while now and, frankly, each one of the Harry Potter fics so far has been worth reading. You could find them all at the Harry Potter Tag.

I particularly enjoyed:

Correspondence by [livejournal.com profile] loneraven. Growing up is hard to do.This is a lovely, gentle piece told entirely in letters between an OC (Robin) and Hermione. Robin is a transgender kid who Hermione approached about championing transgender rights. Robin gently puts Hermione in her place and a lovely friendship develops.

Communion by [livejournal.com profile] celandineb. Draco decides to tell Harry the truth about the past before anything can happen between them. A sweet and tender look at some of the challenges of growing up different, well-meaning people's blunders, and taking at chance. This is pretty introspective and quite lovely.

And then there's mine, which I shall repost here at a later date, Live Every Day. The pairings are: Alice/Dorcas, Alice/Frank, Alice/Lily, Remus/Sirius, Lily/James; 4,900 words; Rated R.

I had intended to write a light-hearted piece about Rose Weasley and out came this. Not my usual fluffy romance. :/ This is an Alice-centric piece set from when she is about fourteen and her mother drops her off for school, until early 1981. Alice is the child of a Seer who worked as a carnival fortune-teller, and she spent her childhood traveling with the carnival. Life at Hogwarts and in stable wizarding society is an adjustment in many ways, and then there is the war. There is angst, infidelity, friendship, exploring identity--political allegiances, bisexuality, love, family--and making peace with all of the above.

YAY! [livejournal.com profile] springtime_gen has started posting. I'll admit I have not had time to read a story yet, but I will soon.

But...my gift was already posted!! And it is beyond wonderful. It is a comic featuring a squishable MWPP. It is beautifully colored and sweet and funny. Go check it out and leave the artist some love. Go!

[livejournal.com profile] hp_springsmut only has one more day until the reveals! If you have any time, get over there and do some reading while they are still anon. I went back and scoured some of the earlier ones I had missed and found, among others, this:

Starry in the time of our darkness
Rating: NC-17
Pairing(s): Neville/Fleur
Disclaimer: All Harry Potter characters herein are the property of J.K. Rowling and Bloomsbury/Scholastic. No copyright infringement is intended.
Summary: Following the deaths of their loved ones, intrigue and the ghosts of the past bring Neville and Fleur together.
Warnings: Character death (before the story starts).
Word Count: 9,000
Author's Notes: This is epilogue-compliant, but interview canon is largely ignored. The title is from 'For the Fallen' by Laurence Binyon; a verse of this poem is quoted in the story.

There are so many interesting, creative plots at this fest, and this is one of them. There is a completely unique mystery. I don't want to say too much because half the enjoyment of reading it was the constant, "what the hell happened?" in my head. The 9,000 words move along quickly. The grown up, mature Neville and Fleur characterizations are wonderful. The developing romance is lovely and believable. Read it, go on! I don't forget to leave the author some feedback.

my past recs were Here and Here.

And, if anyone who doesn't already know has a guess as to which one I wrote, I love to hear it!
mindabbles: (Default)
[livejournal.com profile] hp_springsmut is still going strong. There's every rare pair you can imagine, and some you can't! There are some really wonderful stories and art there—stories of just over 1,000 words to 31,000 words. There m/m slash, femslash, and het. In short, there should be something for everyone!

I have not read nearly everything. I just can't keep up. But it is lots of fun to scan the community and just try something you'd never think to try. Give something new a shot. Read a couple of sections or the first couple of thousand words and see. If you care enough to finish it, leave the writer or artist a comment.

Here's one:

Hunter and Game
Rating: NC-17
Pairing: Snape/Fleur
Summary: Severus Snape used to think that he was the only spy capable of working against the Dark Lord. He was wrong.
Warnings: Implied infidelity (re: Bill/Fleur), although that isn't the focus of the story. DH-compliant. I assume that Fleur was 17, and thus of age, in GoF.
Word Count: 12,800

The author notes that the request called for this pairing to be, "taken seriously." Here is another marvelous rare pair that I would never had imagined, but the author totally made it work. The story is canon-compliant and is a Fleur you've never imagined. Well, maybe you have, but I hadn't. It is written in a backwards timeline, spanning a few years. The structure made it feel mysterious and urgent—I was anxious to find out how it started and watch the story work its way back. There was lovely writing and many moments that made my heart clench. I didn't mean to read this one when I looked at it (it was past my bedtime), but I couldn't stop reading it. Go on, give it a try!

And here's my gift:

The Ward
Title: The Ward
Rating: Hard R
Pairing(s): Harry/Charlie
Disclaimer: All Harry Potter characters herein are the property of J.K. Rowling and Bloomsbury/Scholastic. No copyright infringement is intended.
Summary: Harry is going blind. Ron and Hermione need to find the Grangers. They ask Charlie to stay with Harry while they're gone.
Warnings: *Suggestion of Character Death*
Word Count: ~9,000

It is a very creative take on Harry's life and is well-written. There is a romantic, dreamy sex scene and a lovely Charlie. This is a set up for the pairing and a plot I would never have imagined. So, so creative. I'll add to the warnings, religious/Christian themes that might not be everyone's cuppa.

There's also a Hermione/Gabrielle with a really creative plot, a Neville/Teddy with a fabulous Neville, and many, many others. There's just about a week left in the fest, so peruse while they're still anon!
mindabbles: (woman bike)
So [livejournal.com profile] hp_springsmut is in full swing. After just over a week of posting, there are many gems. I haven't read everything and I'd love to hear what some of you all think. Here are a few I've enjoyed so far:

I Got Life, Brother
Dean/Seamus; rated R; Seventh Year at Hogwarts was not what Seamus expected: Snape in charge, Death Eaters teaching classes, and Dean missing. How can he find his way when he's feeling so very lost?; about 2,000 words.

A really lovely friendship story featuring wonderful a Seamus, a loveable Dean and fabulous cameos from Ginny, Luna, and Neville.

Harry/Teddy, with various others mentioned and a voyeuristic Albus Severus; rated NC-17; It's funny what a bloke can find out if he just keeps his eyes open. Funny, and disturbingly hot, too.; 4,372 words.

Funny and disturbingly hot about says it all! This is fast paced and very tight. Albus is hilarious and quite wrong, in a good way. This story is really well put together and I loved the lack of sentimentality in Albus. (See, if I had written this--well, the bit about the Serious Talk about the Relationship? That's probably what I would have written. You'll see. Made me laugh at myself.)

Crabbe/Goyle (that's right); rated hard R; Greg has always been alone until Vince is there. The Room of Requirement changes this.; 2,255 words.

Yes, Crabbe and Goyle—as three dimensional characters. This was listed as dark!fic. I would absolutely say it is angsty, but not too dark for me. It is beautifully written and actually makes you feel for Gregory Goyle.

I'll try and give some of the longer ones my attention and have a post of those soon. In the meantime, take a look at these and if you enjoy, leave the writer a quick, "I enjoyed this."

Back to writing [livejournal.com profile] springtime_gen!

Have you read this??

By [livejournal.com profile] snegurochka_lee for [livejournal.com profile] smutty_claus

Three Men Who (Probably) Never Shagged Hermione Granger rated NC-17

This is so much fun. It is Charlie/Hermione, Oliver/Hermione, Cedric/Hermione—and you figure out which ones are imagined and which happened! There is some wonderful banter between a foul-mouthed Charlie, a foul-mouthed Oliver, and a proper Cedric. It is Hermione and Ron's wedding reception and some of the guests cannot stop thinking about their fantasies (about the Hermione, not the Ron). Anyway, it is a quick read and is totally sexy and charming, with just a touch of melancholy at the end. I loved this Charlie, so you get the Charlie icon.

And how about this?

By [livejournal.com profile] goneoffthelump for [livejournal.com profile] hp_yule_balls

59 Days rated NC-17

This is an adorable, totally sexy-sweet Harry/Ron—yes, you read the pairing I am rec'ing right. They are awkward and obtuse and both totally in awe of the fact that this is happening. There are some just lovely exchanges and some really nicely done sex scenes.

Go ahead and take a look, and don't forget to leave the authors some feedback.

Everyone knows by now - REMIX IS LIVE.

There are 51 Harry Potter entries. Can you spot mine? Like others, I think that if you've read even one thing I've written, it's blatantly obvious. Also like others, if you can guess which one it is, I'll write a little something for you.

My remixer chose a ficlet I wrote about Harry's feelings about being a godfather. I would never have imagined that someone would pick this one. I suppose that's half the fun of remix - other people see things in your stories that you never saw yourself. The remixer kept my favorite lines and added a lot of depth, added sections from the first war and a Sirius POV. Adding Sirius always makes a story better. So, go read and leave a comment!

Title: Hush Little Baby (The Offer They Couldn't Refuse Remix)
Summary: Two young men, two infants, two generations, and promises made on the brink of war and in its aftermath: the legacy of family and a godfather's love.
Rating: PG
Fandom: Harry Potter
Characters: Harry, Sirius, Teddy, James (Sr.), Lily, Andromeda
Word Count: ~4,000
Title, Author and URL of original story: In Still, Quiet Moments

I received, in

[profile] buckle_berry's Valentine's Day card-a-thon, a lovely, achey, card from Remus to Sirius. Thank you, mystery author! It's just right for Remus and I love it. I can't share the actual card, because I am technologically impaired, but I am happy to share the text:

O Tannenbaum by [personal profile] elsane
Remus/Sirius, James/Lily, Peter, rated PG
Summary: Christmas holidays at the Potters', seventh year, and walking into the woods to find a Christmas tree is not going so well this time around. Features Marauders variously cold, cranky, and closeted, enchanted mittens, and a great quantity of snow.
This is thoughtful and well-written, with vivid imagery, a little bit of melancholy, a little bit of sweetness, and the perfect tree.

Rainstorms by [personal profile] such_heights
Padma/Luna, rated PG-13
Summary: The first time Padma noticed Luna Lovegood, really noticed her, she was standing outside in the pouring rain.
Luna is delightful, Padma is charming and if this story had cheeks I'd pinch them. It is a well-done, romantic get-together fic that is very easy on the eyes.
mindabbles: (Default)
[personal profile] such_heights  wrote All Ye Faithful (Neville, others, PG-13). It is really quite stunning. Neville is wonderful, as are other members of the DA and the strength of the friendships portrayed.

[profile] lesyeuxverts00  wrote As Fish Drawn Up from the Sea (Snape, McGonagall, others, PG-13) AND  Angels and Ministers of Grace (Snape, Harry, PG-13). They are both exceptionally beautifully written and feature a sympathetic and still in-character Snape.

Others I enjoyed, either because of the story or the characterizations were:

[personal profile] lareinenoire wrote A Black Register (Remus, Andromeda, PG-13)

[profile] sciathan_file wrote The Seduction of Sirius Black (Sirius, James, Marelene McKinnon, others, PG-13)

[profile] jncar wrote Detention with Professor Longbottom (Neville, Teddy, PG)

Rise From The Ashes; Teddy/Cedric,Rated NC-17 by [profile] midnitemaraud_r for smutmas.

Can't imagine how she made this pairing work? Go read it.

Don't usually like the younger generations? Ah, go read it anyway.

Want the real story behind Remus/Tonks? Then, go read it!

If that's not enough for you, it's got interesting plot twists, surprise visits from some of your favorite characters, and a sweet, sexy romance. What's not to like?

Oh, and I am ridiculously proud of myself because this is the first entry I've managed in html.

A fantasitc fic with first war angst, pining and oblivious Remus, a pining and moody Sirius, missed opportunities, wonderful Marauder interaction, humor, sadness, sweetness, and an adorable ending. Rated PG-13.
In Time It Leaves You for by [profile] last_radio

A lovely, romantic New Year R/S drabble with some Sirius sentimentality - swoony. Rated PG.
The End of the Year by [profile] lesyeuxverts00 who I believe should win the most prolific writer award for this season.

A sweet, gentle fic starring Neville and his relationship to his parents. Features a thoughtful Luna and a lovely Augusta as well. Rated PG
